Privacy Policy
Hugsy is a two-person app — the whole point is that your relationship lives between you and your partner, and no one else. This page explains exactly what data we collect, why, who can see it, and how to take it back.
1. Who we are
Hugsy is operated by the makers of the Hugsy couples app, available on the App Store and Google Play. In this document, “Hugsy,” “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to that team. “You” means anyone who installs or uses the app or visits this website.
Contact for any privacy question: admin@hugsy.app.
2. What we collect
Account information
Phone number or email used to sign in, a display name and profile photo if you set one, your authentication tokens, and the pairing code that links you to your partner.
Relationship and pairing data
Your partner’s account identifier (so the two of you can be linked), the date you paired, and optional relationship context you choose to add (anniversary, time zone, your relationship label).
Content you create
Answers to daily questions, memories (photos and captions), shared canvas drawings, chat messages, mood states, and any other content you add inside the app. This content is designed to be shared with your partner.
Device and usage data
Device type, operating system version, app version, language preference, push-notification token, crash logs, and approximate IP address. We use these to keep the app working and diagnose issues.
Analytics
If you’ve consented to analytics on this website or in the app, we record anonymous events such as which screens you visit and which buttons you tap. We do not collect this data before you consent, and you can withdraw consent at any time.
Payment information
If you subscribe to Hugsy Plus, the payment is processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). We receive a confirmation of your subscription status but we do not see your card number, UPI ID, or billing address.
3. Why we collect it
- To run the app. Syncing your daily question with your partner, delivering thumb kiss in real time, saving memories so you can find them again next year.
- To send notifications. Reminders for daily rituals, your partner showing up, streak milestones. You can turn these off in the app at any time.
- To keep you and the platform safe. Detect abuse, prevent fraud, respond to legal obligations.
- To improve the app. Aggregate, de-identified analytics tell us which features matter and what’s broken.
- To talk to you when needed. Transactional emails about your account, security alerts, and (only with your permission) the occasional product update.
4. Who can see your data
Your partner
By design, content you create inside the pair (answers, memories, messages, drawings, mood) is visible to your partner. That is the entire product. Until you’re paired, this content stays only with you.
Service providers we trust to run the app
- Firebase (Google): sign-in authentication, push notifications. Data may be processed outside India.
- Stream (getstream.io): chat and messaging infrastructure. Messages are stored encrypted in transit.
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): our application servers, databases, and media storage (photos in memories). Data is stored in AWS regions; some may be outside India.
- Brevo: transactional email delivery (welcome, security, account).
- Mixpanel: product analytics, only after consent. We do not send message or memory content here; only behavioural events.
What we never do
- We do not sell your data. Ever. There is no version of Hugsy where this happens.
- We do not run a public profile or “discover couples nearby” feed.
- We do not share your content with advertisers, data brokers, or content-targeting partners.
When we may be required to disclose
We will only share data with law enforcement or authorities when compelled by a valid legal request, and we’ll push back on requests that look overbroad. Where the law permits, we’ll notify you.
5. Where your data is stored
Application data, including memories and messages, is stored on Amazon Web Services and Stream infrastructure. Some processing may happen in AWS regions outside India (typically Asia-Pacific). When data is transferred internationally, we rely on standard contractual protections with these providers.
6. How long we keep it
- Account and content: until you delete your account, at which point it is removed from active systems within 30 days.
- Backups: deleted account data persists in encrypted backups for up to 90 days before being overwritten in normal rotation.
- Logs and analytics: retained for up to 12 months, then aggregated or deleted.
- Records we must keep by law: some payment and tax records are retained for the period required by Indian law.
7. Your rights
You can:
- Access the data we hold about you, by writing to us or using in-app export tools when available.
- Correct incorrect data from your profile screen.
- Delete your account and the memories you created. This is permanent and you’ll see a confirmation step.
- Export the content you contributed to memories.
- Pause or leave the pair at any time, from inside the app.
- Withdraw consent for analytics or marketing, from settings or by writing to us.
- Nominate a representative to exercise these rights on your behalf in the event of death or incapacity.
To exercise any of these, email admin@hugsy.app. We aim to respond within 7 days and to complete the action within 30 days.
8. Security
We use TLS (HTTPS) for all traffic between your device and our servers. Stored content is access-controlled. We use Firebase and AWS managed services with industry-standard protections. No system is unbreakable; please use a strong device passcode and tell us immediately if you suspect your account has been compromised.
9. Children
Hugsy is built for adults in adult relationships. You must be at least 18 years old to use Hugsy. If we learn that someone under that age has signed up, we will remove the account.
10. Cookies and similar technologies
On this marketing website (hugsy.app) we use a small number of cookies for essential functionality and, only with your consent, analytics and advertising attribution. You can manage choices via the cookie banner. Inside the app, we use local device storage rather than cookies.
11. Changes to this policy
We’ll update this page if our practices change. If the change is material, we’ll notify you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the latest revision.
12. Contact and grievance
For any question about your data, including complaints, please email admin@hugsy.app. We will acknowledge within 7 days and respond substantively within 30 days. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may also approach the relevant data protection authority in your jurisdiction.
